Thermosetting Plastics
Thermosetting plastic is a type of plastic that becomes extremely strong, durable, and stable through a curing process. It is a polymer composed of cross-linked molecules. When a hardener is added and the plastic cures, the molecular bonds become so tightly interwoven that they cannot be separated by heating. This gives the plastics properties that are difficult to find in other materials—such as high wear resistance, heat tolerance, smooth surfaces, and resistance to chemical exposure.
Target Audience
This thermosetting plastics training is intended for anyone who leads or is engaged in work involving thermosetting plastics. As these materials are used in a wide range of industries, the course is relevant for construction workers, welders, mechanics, as well as lash stylists and nail technicians.
Background and Training Requirements
In 2015, the previous regulation Thermosetting Plastics (AFS 2005:18) was replaced and incorporated into the regulation on Chemical Hazards in the Working Environment (AFS 2014:43). This updated regulation introduced stricter training requirements for individuals working with products containing:
- Diisocyanates
- Epoxy resin components
- Organic acid anhydrides
- Formaldehyde resins
- Methacrylates labeled with H317 or H334
- Acrylates labeled with H317 or H334
- Ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate or methyl-2-cyanoacrylate, if exposure exceeds 30 minutes per week
New EU Regulation (EU 2020/1149)
In August 2020, a new EU regulation came into force, complementing Swedish legislation. This regulation applies across Europe and introduces stricter training requirements and clearer labeling of products containing more than 0.1% monomeric diisocyanates.
- All products covered by the EU regulation must be labeled with the following text: “As from 24 August 2023 adequate training is required before industrial or professional use.”
- Anyone handling these substances professionally must ensure they have the necessary knowledge to work safely by completing specialized training.
This thermosetting plastics training complies with both Swedish occupational health and safety regulations and the new EU regulation. The course is classified at an advanced level according to the definition in EU 2020/1149.
Online Training in Thermosetting Plastics
Our course is delivered online through our user-friendly and educational training portal. The portal is optimized for all types of devices, and the course can be completed just as easily on a phone as on a computer or tablet. The platform also saves your progress and remembers where you left off, so you don’t need to complete the course in one sitting — you can study at your convenience.
Certificate of Completion
Upon completion of the course, a physical certificate will be issued and sent by post to the participant. A digital certificate is also issued, which can be viewed and downloaded from the training portal.
